On March 3, 2022, the Building Ontario Businesses Initiative Act, 2022 (BOBIA) received royal assent. BOBIA was the first step of the provincial government’s Building Ontario Businesses Initiative, which is intended to strengthen the province’s supply chain security and economic growth by reducing barriers and providing companies in Ontario with greater access to public procurement opportunities. BOBIA will accomplish this by requiring “public sector entities”, like HMMS on behalf of our hospital network, to give preference to Ontario businesses when conducting a procurement process for goods and services.
